iCal to Outlook synchronization

I'm planning to add iCal synchronization feature to RSS Popper, thus enabling iCal sync with Outlook.

If anyone has ideas, comments, feature requests or iCal sample feeds feel free to throw me a line.

UPDATE 21.04.2006:
After fighting with Outlook calendar for the last few days, it seems I've got answers to all the questions and it's only a matter of days (and not many) before a first development version is released.

UPDATE 22.04.2006
An initial version with iCal support (0.36a1) is available for first preview. iCal events are stored as meeting requests in the target folder of the feed. It lacks a lot of functionality, specifically:
- Remainder
- Recurring events
- TimeZone support
- Events update support

Further more, there are some iCal feed that I couldn't make working at all (socket couldn't connect). I'm still checking this out, it's really weird.

Comments:
Would this enable syncing Outlook with Google Calendar? Both ways?

If so (even one way sync), this is going to be HUGE! Seriously, you're going to make a lot of people very happy, and get a lot of people installing RSS Popper for just this functionality, if you can pull this off. :-)

Keep us updated!

I agree 100% with Josh. I'd love to have this feature in Outlook - can't believe it's not there already.

Hmmm - what other Outlook annoyances do I have that Sagi could fix for us?

This would be huge. I'm sure that the various Ical websites can supply with you as many iCal feeds as you can use - I think Google has a nice summary list among its Google Calendar help files.

Josh -
It would work with Google Calendar - Google exports iCal link as well as ATOM format of the calendar (at this point the iCal link doesn't work, but I'll support the ATOM if Google won't fix the iCal).

However at this point I'm planning only one-way sync.

How long?????!!! I want it ! I want it now!

Even one-way would be much better than nothing at all. :-) Can't wait to try it out!

Another shameless should-have-been-fixed-in-Outlook-but-wasn't- so-let's-have-Sagi-do-it-for-free-for-us request: Better Oulook new message notification. I've found the "Show an envelope in the notification area" feature to be notoriously unreliable, as well as too easy to accidentally turn off. I'd love to have a GTalk-like notification applet instead.

One-Way? Which way outlook -> ical (google, what I want) or ical -> outlook?

Is there any chance to have NTLM autentication in RSS Popper, so people can grab news from secured sites like Intranet etc.?
I am looking forward to stop using NewsGator for it :)

One-way: iCal=>Outlook.

Nat: There is authentication in RSS Popper (per feed and for the proxy). NTLM authentication doesn't work?

Any chance for the other direction (Outlook => Google syncing) any time soon? That would be absolutely fabulous...

Pleeeeaaaasssseee..... :-)

It would be interesting to make difference between read and unread document. Like icon for mail with two different icon. Here it's the same icon for read and unread.

Second, it would be great when you use a PDA (Windods mobile) to import this rss when you make a synchronisation ;)

Remote Calendar is really buggy, though. When you want to reload a remote calendar, it duplicates all the items in Outlook. :(

this is cool. better try this to see if it works for me.

Thanks you.

Outlook 2007 claim iCal support

Just go ahead and do it. I am in desperate need of a simple way to get my iCal to sync with outlook.

You'll get great press.

I've found the "Show an envelope in the notification area" feature to be notoriously unreliable, as well as too easy to accidentally turn off. My friends at web design company too complain of the same. I'd love to have a GTalk-like notification applet instead.

thank god i haven't experienced such kind of problems in our Web design and Web development company

I agree 100% with Josh. I'd love to have this feature in Outlook - can't believe it's not there already.
